Besides having access to a dedicated UI (user interface) for pre-order analytics, you'll be able to automate capturing deferred payments. Your customers can confirm or update their orders by themselves (e.g. Changing addresses), to reduce your support tickets and save your time from having to manually process each pre-order.
You can also easily set up different pre-order payment settings (e.g. Partial payment, split cart payment) and additional discounts for any products and variants. Pre-orders can be scheduled, and the storefront buttons and interface can be customised easily.
A theme with built-in functionality would only be able to compete with other simple Pre-order apps that only helps you change the text of your "Buy Now" button, without the automation and customisation Early Bird provides.

Every app will have some impact on your store's speed, but for Early Bird the actual speed impact is negligible. We always strive to improve your customer's user experience, not detract from it.
Unlike most other apps, we have smart detection code in place to immediately swap out regular buttons and prices on preorder products, for your Early Bird configured ones, to avoid any flickering or delay which may confuse or disorient the customer.
There will be a couple of seconds where these loading states are shown, while we fetch your Early Bird campaign settings and set things up, but this process won't interfere with the rest of your store.
If you're curious about the technical details: We try and keep our app's bundle size as small as possible. We use mostly vanilla JavaScript (no framework) and limit the third party libraries. We send one request to our API to fetch your settings, and only on the product and collection pages, to minimise our impact and load time.
